AAAAAND... HE MISSED... WIDE LEFT.
What was a back and forth game throughout ended up in utter disappointment. Ultimately despite having the ball and a chance for a go ahead fg with less 1:40 remaining in the game, Bengals did what they do best. Hand the victory to the other team. Earlier in the game K Nugent made a 53 yard FG with ease. With the game on the line however, he decides to sail the ball 'just' outside the left upright with plenty of power. This gave the buccaneers great field position at the 40 with plenty of time to get into FG range theirselves and ultimately take the game we handed them on a few occasions.

Bucs came out on a mission to start the first, driving straight down the field and capitalizing on a quick hitter up the seam to V Jackson in the left slot all while chewing up 6:02 off the clock to open the game. The opening drive by the Bucs displayed a common theme for their plan of attack throughout the game... Martin in the Flat.

We responded by driving back down the field using a similar strategy hitting Bernard for a 20 yard gain and then handing the ball to him on toss going in 29 yards for the TD.

2nd Drive by Bucs, they came out attempting to be a title more aggressive and on 1st and 10 tried to hit deep post out of an empty set... Picked off by Adam Jones. Suddenly, the game had a different feel to it.

We would do nothing with the INT, and after punting to the Bucs, 2nd play of their drive they hit RB Martin once again on a swing pass to the right flat and he's off 44 yards to the End Zone. Now, maybe now, we will start paying attention to him??

We then drive back down the field get to our 36 and take a shot to the end zone with Bernard streaking down the sideline, Dalton does what he does best and leaves it short, allowing Sterling Moore to pick it off and fall in the end zone for a TB.

We held the Bucs to a punt, and proceeded right back down the field. ONce on the 29 and within striking distance of the end zone, Dalton once again throws a pick into coverage, essentially ending the half.

Only Down 7 and thinking we would be able to take away the flats to Martin and already controlling him on the ground, we felt good still about the outcome of the game. We came out of half straight down the field and capping it off with AJ Green over the top from the 36 yard line down the seem TD. Game Tied.

We get a sack by manually taking away Martin to the Flat forcing Winston to hold the ball a second longer. This lead to a punt. We take the ball back down the field and capitalize on a 53 yard fg. 3rd qtr ends 17-14 Bengals after trailing at half 14-7.

4th qtr, Bucs keep on with same game plan but now that we are actually taking Martin away manually, we are starting to see incomplete passes, and air balls. Winston seems to be uncomfortable when you take away his first to reads usually a drag / post combo and the swing pass to the flat. They do get a FG hold us to a 3 and out. On their. Next possession they went to the ground with Martin, 12 then 4, then Winston got greedy and tried to hit Evans on a Delayed post over the middle. Pass was picked off manually by Iloka as I was waiting for the route noticing the twin WR to the left side.

But here is where I knew we were going to find a way to lose the game.... We didn't deserve the win, because on the very 1st snap of the possession that should have sealed the game, Dalton lobbed a ball that should have been thrown with Zip down the sideline against cover two. WR had a window, but Dalton lobs it up for the safety who returns it to the 10. Winston then tosses the ball right to Martin... We have AJ Hawk, Iloka and Dre Kirkpatrick all with hands on him from both sides and the front.... Martin makes the play of the game.... Takes the hit from all 3 defenders at once, and spins out of it, into the end zone.... Capped it off with a dive out the back of the end zone. What should have been a 2 yard loss, went to the house and sealed our fate.

Everything that happened after in short.... We go back and get a TD in hurry up mode, pick off Winston once more with the Game now tied. And with 1:40 remaining We line up to take go ahead FG from the 51 feeling good about defense being able seal the game... And we miss. One pass later from the 40 Bucs are in FG range, game was essentially over. Their kicker put it through the uprights game over.

Good game Taz, this loss feels worse than our win felt good against you earlier in the year. Good luck rest of year, look forward to our next showdown.

Pick 6 and 101 yd ko rtrn td too much to overcome
Untimely turnovers including one pick 6 with Dalton trying to hit the flat and a 101 Yard Kickoff Return Td proved to be too much to overcome. These plays also altered what seemed to be an effective offensive game plan and took the ball out of Hill's hands and put squarely on Daltons shoulders. While AJ Green has been more involved last couple weeks, throwing the ball 46 times to only 12 rushing attempts is not the balance we are expecting. Hill was running effectively and often in the 1st quarter and would have been a recipe for success if not trying to play catch up after the pick 6 and Kick off Return TD.

Will be looking forward to reestablishing that balance in the coming weeks.

Offense struggles overshadow defensive effort
This appears to be a reoccurring theme this year, as Dalton continues to throw inaccurately. I mean he seems to be extremely accurate to the opposite team. Final score will indicate a different story, however there were long drives that were absolutely blown by bad throws, and one drive right before half taking points off the board where we potentially could have rebounded and pulled within 7 points before half time even though we started off trailing 21.

Defense had a solid effort consistently throughout the game, sacking Romo 5 times, allowing only one run to leak out for a big when the game was well out of reach. The Defense for all intensive purposes only allowed 21 points, the other 21 came from 2 pic 6 TD and one other INT that gave the Cowboys the ball at 16 yard line.

I will not question this teams effort nor will we throw in the towel, but if the offense doesn't figure out what the F is going on.... this is going to be a really long season.

BENGALS OFFENSE A NO SHOW
Missed opportunities were really the story of this game.

At the end of first half only down 2 scores Adam jones returns kickoff for 52 yards and is tripped by a pinky ... Would have been huge momentum driver as we had the ball to open 2nd half. first possession of 2nd half missed Tyler Eifert for what should have been a walk in TD on a deep post. Dalton made the right read on the play but over threw TE by about 60 yards.

- defensively we were solid in the first half and had a solid game plan with a real good idea how we were going to be attacked. There was really nothing that surprising about the way Doc called his offense. However bengals Defense let the wheels fall off when they realized the offense wasn't going to pull its weight. The end game results will make it seem like we could not stop the run however most of the damage came in the final stages of the 2nd half. One outside stretch broke for a big play to the outside where WR Andre Holmes decided to block better than any Right Tackle in the stadium and completely blew up CB Kirkpatrick and allowed Murray to get the sideline with no resistance until we caught him 36 yards later. This would be the play that deflated any hope of getting back in this game as two plays later raiders would punch it in to go up 21 but more importantly took the fight out of the defense.

While it would be easy to point fingers at the defense the truth of the matter is this game falls entirely on the bengals offense.

Hats off to Doc, taking nothing away from the raiders performance, we know there were opportunities missed that could have lead to a different outcome. Good thing it's early in the season. --Jdub

Key Stats

Offense 1/8 on 3rd down
Only 8 first downs
10/21 passing 5 yard average per attempt
12/33 rushing 2.75 average per attempt
Gave up 4 sacks all to Khalil Mack
Crabtree Holmes and Cooper combined for 4 pancakes while the entire bengals oline had 1

Take always...

- Find #52 and block him

- Work on qb accuracy (threw multiple passes to absolutely no one in the entire stadium)
- airballs stalled drives and cost points, on several occasions the targeted wr or TE was running free for a would be touch down or big gain on 3rd down.
- Can not afford to have missed tackles, two misses accounted for 84 yards of offense where there was potential for no gain on both plays.
